What is Jungian Sandplay

Jungian Sandplay Therapy is a depth-oriented therapeutic approach that allows individuals to express their inner world through symbols rather than words. Rooted in the work of Carl Jung and developed by Dora Kalff, it offers a free and protected space where the psyche can unfold safely and naturally.

In a sandplay session, clients use a tray of sand and a collection of miniature figures—people, animals, objects, and natural elements—to create scenes that reflect their inner experiences. These images are not random; they emerge from the unconscious and often carry deep personal and universal meaning.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, sandplay does not rely on verbal explanation. This makes it especially powerful for children, as well as for adults working through trauma or experiences that are difficult to put into words. Through the process of creating and observing these symbolic worlds, the psyche begins to move toward balance and integration.

The therapist holds the space without directing or interpreting too quickly, allowing transformation to unfold at the client’s own pace. Over time, the trays often reveal a quiet but profound journey of healing and self-discovery.
