Hercules & Burnout

High Achiever Syndrome

The Symptoms :

The Hercules Archetype: Decoding Modern Burnout

  • Chronic Fatigue: A feeling that the "world is on your shoulders."

  • Irritability: Sudden outbursts of anger (like Hercules' madness).

  • The "Unstoppable" Trap: Feeling that you cannot say "no" to new tasks.

  • The "Poisoned Shirt"
Hercules didn't die in battle. He died from a poisoned shirt (the Shirt of Nessus) that burnt his skin. This is the perfect metaphor for burnout: it’s not an external enemy that kills you, but the "clothes" (roles/responsibilities) you put on yourself that eventually start to burn.

  • Hercules had to perform 12 Labors (12 გმირობა). He represents the "high achiever" who takes on more and more to atone for something or to prove his worth. In modern life, we are all Hercules when we work 14 hours a day, trying to be "superheroes" at work and home.
